Welcome to California Heights

  • The neighborhood consists of approximately 1500 properties. The majority of them are Spanish Colonial Revival homes constructed in the late 20s.
  • For most of its history, California Heights was a cattle ranch.
  • After creating a successful business in Massachusetts in 1843, John Temple arrived in California to purchase part of what is now California Heights. The land was later sold to Jotham Bixby, who sold 830 lots to the public which is now California Heights.
  • The California Heights Neighborhood Association (CHNA) is a nonprofit organization working to promote public knowledge and preservation of historic and architectural resources in the California Heights Historic District.
